Marrakech Employees and Friends To Provide Back-to-School Backpacks and School Supplies to Area Children

Local Non-Profit Organization to Assist Quinnipiac Terrace, Hope VI Children Prepare for the New School Year

WOODBRIDGE, CT - Marrakech Inc., a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of educational, employment and housing programs and services to children and adults throughout Connecticut, is spearheading a Back-to-School backpack and school supply drive, for children ages 4-13, in the Quinnipiac Terrace, Hope VI program. The Hope VI program is a federally funded program sponsored by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Approximately 130 backpacks will be distributed on August 16 from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Social Hall at Quinnipiac Terrace located at 15 Dover Drive in New Haven.

Marrakech employees, board members and volunteers are providing the majority of the backpacks and supplies. Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, is joining the efforts by conducting an employee backpack drive in their North Haven office, and has committed to providing a lunch box for every child. New Haven Reads, a City initiative to galvanize a coalition of local agencies and literacy organizations dedicated to raising public awareness about the power of reading, is donating 50 new books and about 75 gently used books, which will be included in every backpack.

"The backpack program is a fun way to give children basic school supplies and support their educational interests," said Frank McCarthy, Executive Director, Marrakech, Inc. "Marrakech, along with other civically minded organizations, is dedicated to helping every child in need to be as prepared as possible for the upcoming school year. For the children of the Quinnipiac Terrace, Hope VI program and their families, these backpacks and school supplies provide many of the necessary tools they will need to succeed academically, which in turn will help them later on in life. It is a small investment in the future of the children at Quinnipiac Terrace."

For the second year, Lindsay Foster, Special Events Coordinator, Marrakech, Inc., has organized the Backpack Drive.
