Partners At Horton, Shields & Knox Law Firm Recognized In Connecticut Super Lawyers 2006 And Lawyer's Weekly USA

Super Lawyers Ranks Wesley Horton and Kimberly Knox in Top 5% of Lawyers in the State; Horton Named to National 'Lawyers of the Year' for 2005 List

Hartford, CT - Wesley Horton and Kimberly Knox, partners at Horton, Shields and Knox, an appellate law firm based in Hartford, Connecticut, have been recognized as two of the state's top attorneys in the premiere issue of Connecticut Super Lawyers 2006, a comprehensive listing of outstanding attorneys in Connecticut.

"We are all very proud that Wes and Kim have been recognized by both Connecticut Super Lawyers and Lawyers Weekly USA," said Bob Shields, managing partner. "The members of our firm know what exceptional lawyers Wes and Kim are and it is gratifying to have their accomplishments recognized on a statewide and national level."

In addition to being named to the state's Super Lawyers list, Mr. Horton was selected as one of the 11 newsworthy lawyers from across the nation in "Lawyers of the Year for 2005" by Lawyers Weekly USA.

"We are particularly honored to congratulate Wes on being named in the Lawyers Weekly USA as a newsworthy lawyer in 2005," said Shields. "His outstanding reputation as a leading appellate lawyer in Connecticut has only been enhanced by his successful argument to the United States Supreme Court in the Kelo case last year. We can only hope that the Supreme Court bell rings again, so Wes can continue to shine on a national level."

Connecticut Super Lawyers highlights Connecticut attorneys who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. This recognition places Horton and Knox in the top 5% of attorneys in the state, as selected by their peers through the independent research of Law & Politics, the publishers of Super Lawyers. Criteria for this professional recognition is based on several factors including polling, peer recognition and a thorough selection process conducted by The Law & Politics attorney-led research team. The team researches, meets and corresponds with law firms in Connecticut to identify the top lawyers in those firms.

For an attorney to be eligible to vote for a peer, he or she must be licensed to practice for five or more years in Connecticut. Law & Politics reviews the discipline records at the Web site of the Statewide Grievance Committee of the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch. The research team also evaluates prospective candidates on civic service and pro bono activities, which are also deemed important.

"It is gratifying to be recognized for our professional legal accomplishments by the selection committee as well as by the legal community whom we work closely with," said Knox. "It means a great deal to us and we are extremely proud individually and collectively."

The February 2006 issue of Connecticut Super Lawyers will be distributed to over 15,000 attorneys throughout the state this month including lawyers in private practice, judges, prosecutors, public service lawyers and in-house counsel. The 2006 Connecticut Super Lawyers listing will also appear in a special advertising section in the February issue of Connecticut Magazine.

Lawyers Weekly USA is a bi-weekly national newspaper published by Lawyers Weekly, Inc., the nation's premier source of legal information for practicing attorneys.
